The year 2020 has been designated as the “Year of the Nurse” by The World Health Organization – in honor of the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. Nurses Week is also celebrated each year starting on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

At American Sentinel, we are doing several things to celebrate Nurse’s Week and the Year of the Nurse. We are awarding Rural Health and Year of the Nurse Scholarships throughout the year, we created an App called “Ask Florence” as an innovative and fun way to learn about nursing history, and we delivered care packages to nurses.

"Ask Florence" App

In the spirit of the Year of the Nurse, we developed an educational tool for nurses and prospective nurses that celebrates Florence Nightingale’s life. The app lets students interact with an animated version of Florence to learn more about her contributions to nursing and society, get answers to predefined questions, and more.

The “Ask Florence” app is available for free download in the iPhone App Store and the Android Google Play store.

If you like history, please check out our Year of the Nurse blog series that highlights a new nursing pioneer every month.

Care Packages

We delivered 150 care packages to nurses fighting the COVID-19 pandemic containing items to help with immunity and self-care. We also delivered food to hospitals in some of the hardest hit areas of the United States.

Nurses are unsung heroes and each nurse deserves to be celebrated not only during Nurses Week and the Year of the Nurse, but every day. Thank you for your commitment to helping others.
