EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The purpose of this project was to determine if offering baby doll care therapy, as a nonpharmacological intervention, to dementia patients living in a nursing home of a rural community would reduce the incidences of aberrant behaviors. Nonpharmacological interventions are now being considered to manage aberrant behaviors and decrease comorbid emotional disorders to help restore the quality of the dementia patient’s life.

RESEARCH

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of healthcare worker (HCW) education on the benefits and use of the CareView System utilizing video remote imaging (VRI) and virtual bed rail® (VBR) motion detection technology on hospital inpatients falls. The quantitative before and after study used a non-experimental design utilizing retrospective data to evaluate the impact of educating HCWs on the new technology on the frequency of falls.

The purpose of this project was to address the need for effective intraprofessional collaboration among nurses to promote job satisfaction, retention, knowledge of their role, and ultimately improve client outcomes. The impact of perception regarding socialization and previous education on collaborative communication were evaluated by providing training in the form of an evidenced based program called Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS).

The purpose of this retrospective, comparative project was to identify if the use of milieu nurse-patient shift assignments impact monthly restraint rates on an inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric unit. The milieu nurse-patient shift assignment combines nurse presence and cognitive milieu therapy into a nursing shift assignment to provide structure, safety, and security, increasing early identification and intervention of crises.
